Jeremiah 1:5 notes "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." God knows who we are even before conception! There was no Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem for seventy years, from 586 to 516 BC. The prophet Daniel (9:2) recalls Jeremiah's prophecy on "the desolation of Jerusalem for seventy years." The prophecy of Jeremiah is also recorded in Second Chronicles 36:21, Ezra 1:1, and indirectly in Zechariah 1:12. Jeremiah is probably most noted for his prophecy on the 70 years of the Babylonian Captivity of the Jewish people (Jeremiah 25:11, 29:10). Written in poetry and prose, the Book of Jeremiah is divided into a Prologue, the Calling and Mission of Jeremiah (Chapter 1) Oracles in the Days of Josiah (Chapters 2-6) the Temple Sermon (7) Oracles during the reign of Jehoiakim (7-20) Oracles during the last years of Jerusalem (21-33) the Fall of Jerusalem (34-45) Judgement on the Nations (46-51) and an Epilogue, which describes the Fall of Jerusalem (52:1-38), also recounted in Second Kings 25. Jeremiah himself suffered persecution with imprisonment, disgrace, and eventual exile to Egypt (43:7). Judah and Jerusalem fell during the reign of King Zedekiah (39:1-10), the Temple of Solomon was destroyed in 586 BC (52:13), and thousands of citizens were deported during the Babylonian Exile. His pleas for a return to the way of the Lord fell on deaf ears during the subsequent reigns of the Kings of Judah. Jeremiah recognized the impending disaster was attributed to the people's infidelity to God. The people of Jerusalem had a false sense of security that God would never allow the Temple to be destroyed. However idolatry returned to Judah following his reign. He was called to prophecy at a young age and supported the reform of the pious King Josiah of Judah, who reigned from 640 to 609 BC. His ministry spanned the time before and during the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians. The prophet Jeremiah was born in the seventh century BC and lived during a period of crisis for the Kingdom of Judah. The prophet Jeremiah is one of four Major Prophets along with Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel in Hebrew Scripture, our Old Testament of the Bible. A Religious CurseJudeo-Christian History focuses on Bible stories and presents a new approach to understanding its factual history. The prophet Jeremiah - יִרְמְיָהוּ - wrote the Books of Jeremiah and Lamentations, the latter his reflection on the destruction of Jerusalem. Gutbrod offers a history of the Jewish-Christian relationship, answering such questions as: Were Judas Iscariot and Barabbas real historical people? Who really killed Goliath? Was Jesus a rebel? What caused the split between Judaism and Christianity? Told through the use of many sources and speculations based on solid evidence, the story starts with pre-Judaism and moves on to Judaism giving birth to Christianity, a mother-daughter story, and the tragic events that nearly led up to a matricidal event.

In A Religious CurseJudeo-Christian History, he shares the results of his years of study in the hopes an understanding of history will improve future inter-faith relationships. Through the ardent study of history while trying to find proof that Catholicism was the one true Christian faith, he discovered the reasons and circumstances that fostered the hatred of Jews. Born into an anti-Jewish family and growing up in a strong Christian environment, author Boyd Gutbrod became a staunch anti-Semitic, a stance that lasted well into his adulthood.
